Merry Christmas - Thoughts on the day

December 25, 2017
It was 25th December 2014 when I first saw this picture. I was waiting for my grandma and uncle to arrive as I was sat next to the Christmas tree on an old wicker chair. It was before the festivities had truly begun and I was mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, bombarded with pictures of the latest phone, fashions and game consoles.

Then, from the dozens of pictures, a model I followed at the time, posted this picture. Rather than the graphics, it was the quote which resonated.
It's not what's under the Christmas tree that matters it's who around it...

At that moment, I switched my phone off and realised the truth of these words.

Without family, friends or whomever you spend Christmas with, what would the day be? I see Christmas as a celebration of those around you, an occasion to appreciate their presence in your life. Where you can give something back to them; time. Christmas is a day where you can devote yourself, without the burden and pressures of work and personal circumstances.

Be reflective and grateful on the 25th December 2017. This year has been full of highs and lows and for some Christmas will be a period of sadness, rather than happiness.

If you are blessed to have great people around you, spare a thought for those who may not.

Best wishes,
